The data behind every fare

Every fare, station and schedule on trains.ph and in the TrainsPh app comes from the files below. Each names its source and the day it was last checked against the operator.

Use it

The data is published under CC BY 4.0. Copy it, build on it, put it in a story. Credit it as: Fare and station data: TrainsPh (https://trains.ph), CC BY 4.0, and give the date in the file's provenance, because fares change. The exception is landmarks.json, which is CC BY-SA 4.0 because it comes from Wikipedia. Reuse it under those terms instead.

The fares themselves are set and published by the operators (LRMC, the LRTA and DOTr-MRT3). TrainsPh is not run or approved by any of them. Check the operator before relying on a fare for anything that matters.

Fares and stations

One file per line. The app downloads the same files, so a correction here reaches every phone without a store update.

48 cells checked cell-by-cell against LRMC's published Stored Value fare matrix (effective 2 April 2025); 0 mismatches. Base fare structure P16.25 boarding + P1.47/km confirmed on the same page. Note the official matrix prints P16 on the diagonal (tap in and out at one station); this dataset stores 0 there and the engine rejects same-station journeys.

All 169 Stored Value cells checked against the LRTA poster effective 2 August 2023; one mismatch found and corrected (Katipunan <-> Santolan, P17 in the scraped candidate, P16 on the poster). The ceil-to-5 Single Journey derivation was checked against all 156 published SJT pairs with 0 mismatches. The poster prints P13 on the diagonal (tap in and out at one station); this dataset stores 0 there and the engine rejects same-station journeys.

Corrected: Katipunan to Santolan, ₱17 to ₱16. Third-party matrix had P17; the LRTA poster shows P16 both ways.

Fares unchanged since 4 January 2015: P13 / P16 / P20 / P24 / P28 across five distance bands. The North Avenue and Taft Avenue rows were checked cell by cell against the published 2026 matrix (24 cells, 0 mismatches); together they exercise every span from 1 to 12, so the band model is confirmed for all 78 pairs. The 50% DOTr discount of 23 March 2026 is carried as a modifier, not folded into the bands.

Every cell of the three matrices transcribed by hand from PNR's images and checked for symmetry and for rising with distance. The Naga-Lupi Viejo matrix of 5 September 2026 agrees with the 2024 Naga-Sipocot matrix on every shared cell, and PNR's 5 September 2026 Naga-Iriga matrix agrees with the 2024 Naga-Legazpi one, so both are current.

How it is checked

  • Each fare matrix was checked cell by cell against the poster or table the operator publishes, and the file records how many cells and how many mismatches.
  • Rules that derive one fare from another, like Single Journey from beep, are kept only if they hold for every published pair.
  • Every file is published with a SHA-256 hash in manifest.json. The app and this site refuse a file whose bytes do not match it.
  • This site's build re-checks every pair against each line's own validation before it publishes a page.
